I Put You Inside a Box
I put you in a box one day,
Packed you up and walked away.
As I walked further, you quietly trailed behind me.
Days turned to weeks, months into years
And yet you stayed.
I put you in a box,
Told you to forget,
Told you to walk away,
Told you to go get happy.
Yet, you stayed.
You stayed and I grew cold-hearted.
Suffocating inside that box,
I walked around, while you played in the shadows,
And it became the new normal.
Days turned to weeks, months into years,
Quietly trailing behind me,
Until one day I looked up and there you sat,
Untouched on a shelf, collecting dust, because
I forgot,
I put you inside a box.
